For all you BlackBerry fans and admirers, the wait for the BlackBerry Curve 8520 is over. Hotlink by Maxis announced the price for the Curve 8520 two days back. It was shocking to me as I didn’t expect them to announce the price so soon. I’ll be giving my review in this post in terms of the pricing aspect of the Curve 8520 by Hotlink.

Yes the BlackBerry Curve 8520 is only at RM899 by Hotlink but what’s the catch? Although there isn’t suppose to be any contract period for this since it is prepaid, they made quite a smart move by stating that the RM300 rebate from the RRP of RM1199 will only be given if you continue to subscribe to any of the BlackBerry Internet Service for 12 months straight. Should you not subscribe it 12 months straight, the rebate is not valid and so you’ll be paying RM1199 for this device.

Looking at the plans available for the BlackBerry Internet Service seems attracting, so I took a look at their FAQ section and found that it isn’t unlimited. For the Social and Messaging package, you are entitled for a 100MB usage and should you exceed it, 1 cent per KB (peak) and 0.5 cent per KB (off-peak) will be charged. As for the Weekly Premium package, you will be entitled to use up to 50MB of usage for that week and should you exceed it, 1 cent per KB (peak) and 0.5 cent per KB (off-peak) will be charged as well. However, many BlackBerry owners reported that even by checking mails, they did not exceed 5MB a week.

An exclusive deal if you purchase the BlackBerry Curve 8520 from Hotlink by Maxis is you’ll be getting a free limited edition BlackBerry skin of your choice stated to be worth RM100. There are 6 choices of skin as seen in the above image. If you’re wondering why is there an asterisk at the word ‘Free’, it just states that you’ll only be given one free skin of your choice with every purchase of the Curve 8520 and it is while stocks last.

Is the plan and pricing fair enough? I would say yes because even at RM1199 (RRP), it is still cheaper than the AP sets out in the market. As far as I know, AP sets are selling for about RM1350. By purchasing with Maxis, you will get an original warranty since Maxis is authorized to sell BlackBerry devices. So much for the hype, I’m sure many are still awaiting for Celcom to announce their pricing for the Curve 8520 as well. So what are your thoughts on the BlackBerry Curve 8520 by Hotlink? :D
