Before I introduce this restaurant to all of you, please be advised that this post will contain pretty much a lot of pork so you have been warned! Established since 1928, Yut Kee is famous for their all-time favorite ‘Roti Babi’ or pork bread in English. During peak hours, this restaurant can be pretty packed and you’ll have to wait for a table then.

Yut Kee Restaurant is located along Jalan Dang Wangi and it is a corner lot. It won’t be difficult to locate as long as you recognize their signboard. If you are visiting during peak hours then it should be easier as well since you just have to look out for a restaurant that is packed.

The atmosphere in the restaurant is not too bad with quite some old school feel. As far as I know, Yut Kee is one of the oldest coffee shop in Kuala Lumpur to add another value point as to why you should give it a try. It seems like this business was passed down generations after generations.

Above is their famous roti babi which you will usually see in every table as this is one of the must have. However, during my visit here, it wasn’t actually that good and I would say it is pretty normal and nothing to shout about. The whole feel when I chewed it was like having tuna fish inside my mouth. A plate of roti babi will cost you RM7.50. Worth it or not, you be the judge.

Next up is their belacan fried rice that I saw from other blogs recommending it. I wouldn’t know how to rate this since the whole taste of the fried rice is already covered up by the taste of the belacan but well, it is still not too bad and worth trying if you are a big fan of belacan. How often would you find a belacan fried rice anyway? A plate of this is priced at RM5.50.

Last but not least, I had their fried hokkien mihun which is also another recommendation from others. This is a bit more tasty than the rest I had but slightly on the salty side and a lot of pork used in it. By the time you finished your meal here in this restaurant, I think most would be quite afraid of pork for a while. This can go to my recommendation list if you decide to give this place a try. This will cost another RM5.70.
They do sell marble and kaya roll cakes which are priced at RM14.00 and RM8.00 respectively but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The cake was so dry and it wasn’t worth a single cent at all. Even those cakes selling in markets could do better and a lot more cheaper. I don’t know if its just that particular day I visited or if its like that all the time but I would suggest to stay away from the cakes.
Conclusion, a famous and old school place which got me really excited to try but the food doesn’t live up to expectations especially with so many good verdicts in various food blogs. It may be well established and have set its ground here but food quality wise isn’t good enough. You still can give it a try though since it isn’t that bad until its not edible.

I’m sure many of us love prawn mee very much. In Petaling Jaya, Mee Yoke Lim in SS2 Cheow Yang is one of the famous ones known for the good taste in it. During my visit to Singapore last year, I happened to bump in to this stall in Hong Lim Food Centre that sells Hokkien prawn mee. It is really difficult to hunt down some good food in another place that you’re not familiar with without the locals bringing you around so I was actually quite lucky to be able to bump into this stall.

The Old Stall Hokkien Street Famous Hokkien Prawn Mee is located in Hong Lim food centre and in my opinion it isn’t that difficult to find it, locals should be able to find it without any problems while tourists could just ask around and you’ll be there in no time. There’s also a MRT station near this place but I can’t recall which station is it, perhaps someone could enlighten me on this ?

Prawn Mee (dry)
Now most of us actually have eaten prawn mee with soup so this stall offers it in a dry version and is one of the favourites among the regulars here. The prawns were fresh too when I tried it. Now I really couldn’t ask for more.

Prawn Mee (with soup)
Now this is the one people are more familiar with, however it does not look the same because the soup is not as thick as the rest. Well there is a reason behind this which will be explained later on. According to the owner Michael, the soup will be boiled early in the morning together with lots of ingredients to have the best possible soup for the prawn mee.

Now I said that there were reasons for the soup not being thick, the owner said that the chili powder provided should be put in to the soup to add more “oomph” in it. The chili powder is also for sale but I am not too sure of the price though.

Me with the owner Michael
Overall I think that this stall offers a really good and satisfying prawn mee. I dare not compare this stall with the rest because I’ve not tried others yet but I dare say that the prawn mee here is good and many celebrities from other country do come to this stall for the prawn mee too as said by the owner. I have also read many other comments on this stall in other blogs and most of it are giving good comments so you can be rest assured that the quality of the prawn mee here is good.
