The Singapore Flyer

I remembered that on my last visit to Singapore in December 2007, I was at the Merlion Park when I saw this huge Ferris wheel under construction. I thought it was some sort of Ferris wheel for some theme park but no when I got back home I discovered that the Ferris wheel is called Singapore Flyer.

Singapore Flyer

The above photo was taken during my last visit to Singapore, it was still under construction that time and now it looks really beautiful. In my opinion it is certainly a respond to Malaysia’s very own Eye on Malaysia. :P

The Singapore Flyer is currently the world’s largest observation wheel standing at 165 m (541 ft) tall taking away that title from the London Eye. The wheel features 28 air-conditioned capsules, each with a floor area of 26 m² (280 sq ft) and capable of holding 28 passengers each, that means it is able to carry 784 passengers at a time. One complete trip will last for 30 minutes.

Although the Singapore Flyer is currently the world’s largest observation wheel, The Great Beijing Wheel is a proposed Ferris wheel for Beijing, China and it will take the title of the world’s largest observation wheel from the Singapore Flyer when it is completed. It is planned to stand at 208 m (682 ft) and will carry up to 1,920 passengers. It is estimated to be completed in 2009.

Any reasons to visit this Singapore Flyer ? Well one of the obvious reasons is it’s the world’s largest observation wheel. Besides that, it is also the only place to see Singapore’s magnificent cityscape. Still in need of better reasons ? :D

Although I’ve not been there to experience this Singapore Flyer but I can tell it is going to be one good experience that I’ll never forget if I really get to try it. I guess it is always better to try it out yourself rather than reading what others have to say so don’t forget to try it out if you will be visiting Singapore. I should stop now since I am like promoting tourism for Singapore rather than my own country Malaysia. After all, Singaporeans visits our country while we visit their country, fair enough. So what do you think of Singapore’s effort and money dipped into this Singapore Flyer ? :)

Dr. Mahathir Mohamad Blogs

So indeed blogs are now commonly used to reach out to others as well as gaining some feedbacks and comments. Even our very own ex Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad don’t want to be left out and he started his own blog few days ago, 1st of May 2008 to be exact. You can visit his blog using this link. He bought his own domain chedet.com which is the pseudonym he used when he wrote articles for the newspapers.

He made his first post at 1.27am on the 1st of May 2008, at 5.00pm on the same day his blog has already received 10,000 visitors. The massive traffic to his blog is simply amazing as I don’t think many other new bloggers would have gotten 10,000 visitors in less than 24 hours.

Dr M’s first post was on the appointment of judges, he has than received 1075 comments (at the time of writing this post). Seriously I’ve never seen many blogs having 1075 comments especially on the first post. Dr Mahathir Mohamad can now be considered a celebrity blogger on his first day of blogging.

The above picture shows the total amount of visitors since he started the blog which the picture was taken not long ago, probably 30 minutes ago. How I wish I have this kind of traffic coming in. :P

Well I think Dr Mahathir Mohamad has chosen the right way to reach the people of Malaysia, never underestimate a blog as it does wonders. If you’ve not read or seen Dr M’s blog, you should visit his blog now. :)

The Beauty of Thailand

I went to Thailand last February and celebrated my Chinese New Year there. While I decided not to spoil everything, I will just give a sneak preview of what you can expect in Thailand. I’m being kind to not post up all the photos so that you are able to explore Thailand without seeing many of the places on the Internet. :P

You can expect beautiful beaches in Thailand. The photo above was taken in Phuket and if you love “ang mohs” then Phuket is probably the place for you. Not to forget that the atmosphere here is great all day and night. During the day everyone will be at the beach either tanning or going for water sports while at night people will usually hang around bars and socialize.

You can also expect sunsets like the above photo. This photo was taken in Krabi, a small yet peaceful place if you are the type of person seeking for a peaceful surrounding to relax. Don’t expect much from Krabi if you are looking for a really happening place.

While I haven’t been to many places in Thailand, the places I went in February that time was already good enough to actually experience the lifestyle and atmosphere in Thailand. If you’ve not been to Thailand, I suggest you quickly book an air ticket along with your accomodation right away. :D
