Stall 742 Beef Noodles in Seremban

I came across a recommended beef noodles stall in Seremban from a food guide book which is Stall 748 in Pasar Besar Seremban. Although it was stated to be closed at 2.30pm, when I reached there at about 1.30pm I was told by a stall selling drinks that everything was finished but one question came to mind, the stall was still preparing bowls of noodles for others so are they really out of stock? I then went to another nearby stall selling beef noodles as well, quite a lot of customers too for this stall.

Stall 742 is above the wet market at the Pasar Besar Seremban. There are quite a lot of stalls when you reach the food area but no worries as the stalls here usually display their stall number big enough making it really visible even from quite a distance.

A bowl of beef noodles here is priced at RM4.00 and if you want the bigger bowl then it’ll be RM5.00. If you do not request for either the dry or soup version, they will automatically give you dry version which you can see on almost everyone’s table that ordered from this stall. Taste wise is above satisfactory but yet to hit excellent. If you noticed from the above photo, the portion is actually quite small for a small bowl, I wonder how much more will they be giving even if I opted for the bigger bowl?

If I were to give a rating out of 5, I will give this stall a rating of 4/5 due to the fact that it is quite pricey considering the portion and amount of beef they gave, I only had one flank in my bowl when I was expecting at least a few. Apart from that, the taste wasn’t exactly excellent thus not gaining a higher rating. However, it is still worth a try and if you’re interested, you should try Stall 742 and 748 while you’re here. :)

Yut Kee Restaurant, Since 1928

Before I introduce this restaurant to all of you, please be advised that this post will contain pretty much a lot of pork so you have been warned! Established since 1928, Yut Kee is famous for their all-time favorite ‘Roti Babi’ or pork bread in English. During peak hours, this restaurant can be pretty packed and you’ll have to wait for a table then.

Yut Kee Restaurant is located along Jalan Dang Wangi and it is a corner lot. It won’t be difficult to locate as long as you recognize their signboard. If you are visiting during peak hours then it should be easier as well since you just have to look out for a restaurant that is packed. :D

The atmosphere in the restaurant is not too bad with quite some old school feel. As far as I know, Yut Kee is one of the oldest coffee shop in Kuala Lumpur to add another value point as to why you should give it a try. It seems like this business was passed down generations after generations.

Above is their famous roti babi which you will usually see in every table as this is one of the must have. However, during my visit here, it wasn’t actually that good and I would say it is pretty normal and nothing to shout about. The whole feel when I chewed it was like having tuna fish inside my mouth. A plate of roti babi will cost you RM7.50. Worth it or not, you be the judge.

Next up is their belacan fried rice that I saw from other blogs recommending it. I wouldn’t know how to rate this since the whole taste of the fried rice is already covered up by the taste of the belacan but well, it is still not too bad and worth trying if you are a big fan of belacan. How often would you find a belacan fried rice anyway? A plate of this is priced at RM5.50.

Last but not least, I had their fried hokkien mihun which is also another recommendation from others. This is a bit more tasty than the rest I had but slightly on the salty side and a lot of pork used in it. By the time you finished your meal here in this restaurant, I think most would be quite afraid of pork for a while. This can go to my recommendation list if you decide to give this place a try. This will cost another RM5.70.

They do sell marble and kaya roll cakes which are priced at RM14.00 and RM8.00 respectively but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. The cake was so dry and it wasn’t worth a single cent at all. Even those cakes selling in markets could do better and a lot more cheaper. I don’t know if its just that particular day I visited or if its like that all the time but I would suggest to stay away from the cakes.

Conclusion, a famous and old school place which got me really excited to try but the food doesn’t live up to expectations especially with so many good verdicts in various food blogs. It may be well established and have set its ground here but food quality wise isn’t good enough. You still can give it a try though since it isn’t that bad until its not edible. :)

Strawberry Fields Cafe @ PJ New Town

If you fancy going to places where they have quite a variety of food so you won’t be restricted to just one kind of cuisine for example Chinese food, then you will have to give Strawberry Fields Cafe a try.

Located at PJ New Town area where the National Registration Department and MBPJ Tower (the cafe is opposite MBPJ Tower) are found, Strawberry Fields Cafe or maybe you could consider it a restaurant too, is one of my favourite to have Thai food. There’s not even a slightest hint that this restaurant serves Thai food, even the name of this cafe doesn’t but I must say the Thai food here is good.

On my visit here, I had their pineapple fried rice and I must say it was really good considering the fact that I have not come across any good pineapple fried rice for quite a while. The taste is just right and best of all, the pricing isn’t expensive at all with this being at RM7.60.

When you visit to many of the Thai restaurants, usually you’ll find their tom yam soup to be really reddish but not for this place, the tom yam soup served here is the clear base version and this is really rare. Of course the soup won’t match the authentic ones but it is good enough to be considered satisfactory. At least it isn’t the conventional reddish soup, right? The above photo is a tom yam yan pok tak seafood soup which is priced at RM9.80.

Overall, this cafe or rather restaurant managed to make my visit here worthwhile. Although I’ve only tried the pineapple fried rice and their tom yam soup, I’m confident that majority of the menu will turn out to be good as well. Apart from Thai cuisine, they have others as well including local delights. I sure think that this place is worth recommending and you should give it a try as well! :D

Sushi Tei at Tropicana City Mall

I’m sure when it comes to Japanese food in shopping malls, most of you would have locked down names like Sushi Zanmai or Sakae Sushi in your minds. Today, I’ll be introducing to you Sushi Tei at Tropicana City Mall.

Sushi Tei is located at the ground floor of Tropicana City Mall and it is at the side where Poh Kong and Kenny Rogers is. It is almost impossible for you to not see Sushi Tei as their entrance is somehow attracts attention. This place can get pretty packed during peak hours.

What’s Sushi Tei without sushi? I had a baked salmon maki which has a price tag of RM4.80 per plate. I’ve been here for a few times already and the salmon is fresh on every of my visit here. This probably shows that they only order fresh stocks to their restaurant. The baked salmon maki was good and its worth ordering.

Next is my all-time favourite in Sushi Zanmai which is a salmon mentai. Again the salmon is fresh but then it was slightly burnt though which wasn’t the case during my previous visit here. Perhaps they overdid it on my recent visit otherwise this is also a delicious sushi to have. A plate of salmon mentai costs RM6.00.

I am also quite a fan of their rice and their chicken katsu don is one my favourite. The chicken is fried to perfection and the egg goes well with the rice and chicken, a real delight to eat. This goes for a price of RM12.80.

Last but not least, here’s their ebi don. Ebi don is deep fried prawn topped with egg on rice so this is similar to the chicken katsu don except this is replaced with prawn instead of chicken. Another option if you don’t want to have chicken. Ebi don is just a ringgit more expensive than the chicken katsu don at RM13.80.

Verdict, Sushi Tei adds another option to the list of places to have a Japanese cuisine. In my opinion, Sushi Tei has set the standard of a good Japanese restaurant while Sushi Zanmai had been degrading as days goes by. Price wise isn’t too expensive and it is somewhat similar with Sushi Zanmai and Sakae Sushi. I would highly recommend Sushi Tei to anyone looking for good Japanese food. :D

Outback Steakhouse at Bangsar Village

Last night, I visited Outback Steakhouse in Bangsar Village as my birthday dinner. How I ended up here was the thought of having steak for the night and I read about this place on the Internet.

Once you’re at the Bangsar area, there’s no way you could miss Bangsar Village so getting you’re way here is pretty easy. Parking inside Bangsar Village can be costly as the first hour is RM3.00 and it’ll be RM1.50 for subsequent hours, fair enough as Bangsar is always regarded as a rich man area.

As a  complimentary starter, a loaf of bread was given. Nothing to go crazy about here but I kinda like the presentation for it. The bread was still warm when it arrived on the table. I think they should have given garlic butter instead of a pure butter, not unless the garlic wasn’t strong enough else my taste bud really tasted pure butter.

I ordered a Bushman ‘Shrooms which is actually mushrooms breaded and deep fried served with spicy ranch dressing. I liked it as the moment I took a bite at it, it was so juicy and it really wets the mouth. The fried mushrooms goes great with the dressing too. This has a price tag of RM17.95.

Next up is of course their steak. What’s the point of visiting a steakhouse without trying their steak? This is their  Outback sirloin steak and medium rare was requested. It is a 225 gr (8-ounce) center-cut sirloin, seasoned and seared to perfection. It was good and it will be dry if you eat it without the provided sauce so never forget the sauce. Their Outback sirloin is priced at RM44.95.

Besides steak, I’ve also ordered their BBQ Chicken Quarter which is smoked, roasted and glazed with their special BBQ sauce, served with coleslaw and garlic mashed potato. I would say this was good but the sauce can get really salty after a while and it makes me thirsty, other than that, chicken lovers can try this. It isn’t too expensive for this at RM25.95.

My experience in Outback Steakhouse was pretty good. The staff kept checking if the food was okay but overall their staffs were quite attentive. Food was good but I can’t say excellent. Should you need a new place to have western food, you might want to consider Outback Steakhouse. :D
