If you fancy going to places where they have quite a variety of food so you won’t be restricted to just one kind of cuisine for example Chinese food, then you will have to give Strawberry Fields Cafe a try.

Located at PJ New Town area where the National Registration Department and MBPJ Tower (the cafe is opposite MBPJ Tower) are found, Strawberry Fields Cafe or maybe you could consider it a restaurant too, is one of my favourite to have Thai food. There’s not even a slightest hint that this restaurant serves Thai food, even the name of this cafe doesn’t but I must say the Thai food here is good.

On my visit here, I had their pineapple fried rice and I must say it was really good considering the fact that I have not come across any good pineapple fried rice for quite a while. The taste is just right and best of all, the pricing isn’t expensive at all with this being at RM7.60.

When you visit to many of the Thai restaurants, usually you’ll find their tom yam soup to be really reddish but not for this place, the tom yam soup served here is the clear base version and this is really rare. Of course the soup won’t match the authentic ones but it is good enough to be considered satisfactory. At least it isn’t the conventional reddish soup, right? The above photo is a tom yam yan pok tak seafood soup which is priced at RM9.80.
Overall, this cafe or rather restaurant managed to make my visit here worthwhile. Although I’ve only tried the pineapple fried rice and their tom yam soup, I’m confident that majority of the menu will turn out to be good as well. Apart from Thai cuisine, they have others as well including local delights. I sure think that this place is worth recommending and you should give it a try as well!

I’m sure when it comes to Japanese food in shopping malls, most of you would have locked down names like Sushi Zanmai or Sakae Sushi in your minds. Today, I’ll be introducing to you Sushi Tei at Tropicana City Mall.

Sushi Tei is located at the ground floor of Tropicana City Mall and it is at the side where Poh Kong and Kenny Rogers is. It is almost impossible for you to not see Sushi Tei as their entrance is somehow attracts attention. This place can get pretty packed during peak hours.

What’s Sushi Tei without sushi? I had a baked salmon maki which has a price tag of RM4.80 per plate. I’ve been here for a few times already and the salmon is fresh on every of my visit here. This probably shows that they only order fresh stocks to their restaurant. The baked salmon maki was good and its worth ordering.

Next is my all-time favourite in Sushi Zanmai which is a salmon mentai. Again the salmon is fresh but then it was slightly burnt though which wasn’t the case during my previous visit here. Perhaps they overdid it on my recent visit otherwise this is also a delicious sushi to have. A plate of salmon mentai costs RM6.00.

I am also quite a fan of their rice and their chicken katsu don is one my favourite. The chicken is fried to perfection and the egg goes well with the rice and chicken, a real delight to eat. This goes for a price of RM12.80.

Last but not least, here’s their ebi don. Ebi don is deep fried prawn topped with egg on rice so this is similar to the chicken katsu don except this is replaced with prawn instead of chicken. Another option if you don’t want to have chicken. Ebi don is just a ringgit more expensive than the chicken katsu don at RM13.80.

Verdict, Sushi Tei adds another option to the list of places to have a Japanese cuisine. In my opinion, Sushi Tei has set the standard of a good Japanese restaurant while Sushi Zanmai had been degrading as days goes by. Price wise isn’t too expensive and it is somewhat similar with Sushi Zanmai and Sakae Sushi. I would highly recommend Sushi Tei to anyone looking for good Japanese food.

Last night, I visited Outback Steakhouse in Bangsar Village as my birthday dinner. How I ended up here was the thought of having steak for the night and I read about this place on the Internet.

Once you’re at the Bangsar area, there’s no way you could miss Bangsar Village so getting you’re way here is pretty easy. Parking inside Bangsar Village can be costly as the first hour is RM3.00 and it’ll be RM1.50 for subsequent hours, fair enough as Bangsar is always regarded as a rich man area.

As a complimentary starter, a loaf of bread was given. Nothing to go crazy about here but I kinda like the presentation for it. The bread was still warm when it arrived on the table. I think they should have given garlic butter instead of a pure butter, not unless the garlic wasn’t strong enough else my taste bud really tasted pure butter.

I ordered a Bushman ‘Shrooms which is actually mushrooms breaded and deep fried served with spicy ranch dressing. I liked it as the moment I took a bite at it, it was so juicy and it really wets the mouth. The fried mushrooms goes great with the dressing too. This has a price tag of RM17.95.

Next up is of course their steak. What’s the point of visiting a steakhouse without trying their steak? This is their Outback sirloin steak and medium rare was requested. It is a 225 gr (8-ounce) center-cut sirloin, seasoned and seared to perfection. It was good and it will be dry if you eat it without the provided sauce so never forget the sauce. Their Outback sirloin is priced at RM44.95.

Besides steak, I’ve also ordered their BBQ Chicken Quarter which is smoked, roasted and glazed with their special BBQ sauce, served with coleslaw and garlic mashed potato. I would say this was good but the sauce can get really salty after a while and it makes me thirsty, other than that, chicken lovers can try this. It isn’t too expensive for this at RM25.95.
My experience in Outback Steakhouse was pretty good. The staff kept checking if the food was okay but overall their staffs were quite attentive. Food was good but I can’t say excellent. Should you need a new place to have western food, you might want to consider Outback Steakhouse.

Hawker Square recently opened for business in Ikano Power Centre. Inside Hawker Square are three… well let’s just consider it as stalls, if I remember correctly there are three stalls there. Hawker Square is on the B1 level and it is just beside Teppanyaki. One of it sells fried food like fried kuay teow in which I will be reviewing the ‘ho jian’ or rather known as fried omelet with oysters from this stall.

This particular stall is named Geylang Kway Teow. Geylang is a district in Singapore and from some food guide books I read before, Geylang is quite known for good food. I don’t know if this stall really is from Geylang but if you see a shop or stall with this kind of name, you’ll usually expect good food.

As I mentioned earlier, I will be reviewing the fried omelet with oysters from this particular stall. It costs RM6 but if you want more, just add RM1 making it RM7 for a large one. I ordered the large one. On first impression, the oysters were just placed at the side of the plate which usually the oysters will be buried with the eggs. It doesn’t look pleasant to the eyes to sum things up. As soon as I took my first bite, I think there’s just too much flour used and I could hardly taste eggs.

They gave ten tiny little oysters. However, the oysters were not fresh at all. There’s this weird taste with the oysters as it isn’t the ordinary taste you’ll get for seafood that is not fresh. The liquid that comes out from the oysters when you bite is terrible too and I’m sure it can cause someone to puke if he or she really can’t take it.

The eggs on the other hand were fried to black. Shouldn’t the cook be watching the fire and such? Not unless the cook loves eating burnt food, it shouldn’t be burnt and this is seriously disappointing. Who would keep eating eggs like this?
In a nutshell, for this price I have to say that this is among the worst food for me this year. I strongly advise you to stay away from this stall although I’ve not tried other food such as their fried kuay teow. Please let me know how’s their other food if you have tried it before. If you want to prevent others from being a victim, kindly retweet this to spread my horrible experience here.
A note to the owner of Geylang Kway Teow if you are reading this, kindly improve the quality of food from your stall if you really want to be successful. Once improved, feel free to contact me and I’ll give it a try again.

Terengganu, in terms of food is famous for their nasi dagang and keropok lekor. If you ask people where to get good nasi dagang or keropok lekor, most of the time people will tell you to just travel all the way to Terengganu to get it. For the Klang Valley people, traveling there would be too costly and why not just head to Kopitiam Kemaman in Damansara Utama?

Kopitiam Kemaman had been in Damansara Utama for quite some time already, since I was in my college’s previous campus. Locating this kopitiam shouldn’t be a problem; it is just along the police station’s row. The owner here talks to most of his customers so from this I could say that majority of the customers are regulars of this place. Kopitiam Kemaman serves quite a variety of food besides food from the eastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

You can have the breakfast set if you’re going in the morning. Perfect light meal to start off the day and it isn’t expensive too. The set comes with two slices of toasted bread and an egg. I would actually prefer them to apply more butter and kaya to the toast though so the taste wouldn’t just be more to a plain slice of bread taste.

Eggs are a good source of many vitamins, calcium, protein and many more. So as long you don’t overdo it, it is a great addition to your diet. Don’t leave out eggs on your next diet!

There’s also a choice of either a cup of tea or coffee and I went with the tea. The cup gives a kopitiam feel but the tea though isn’t strong enough and I think that drinks is one of the most important factor in getting a returning customer. Some people might just visit a kopitiam just for a drink so the drink here has to improve.

Then there’s the nasi dagang which is a favourite in Terengganu. Yes it is a small portion but they are not charging a high price for it so I would consider it justifiable. Taste wise is good but to be honest, it doesn’t match an original nasi dagang.
Honestly, I can’t really recall back the exact price for these but rest assure that with RM5-RM10, you will be able to get a meal here which I would say is affordable. The pricing here does not differ much from those economical Chinese coffee shops and the food here to me is still considered decent but surely there’s more room for improvement.
