There is already a confirmed pricing for the recently launched TM UniFi high speed broadband (HSBB) service. A summary of the price details are as follows:
5mbps – RM149 (60GB monthly cap)
10mbps – RM 199 (90GB monthly cap)
20mbps – RM249 (120GB monthly cap)
*Price includes IPTV
Yes I know what you must be thinking for now, the monthly bandwidth quota! Well, I myself may not like it as well but hopefully this will serve as a fair usage to all the users. Well, it is now confirmed that once you go over the monthly bandwidth cap, the speed will be throttled down to 10% of the advertised speed of your package. As an example, if you’re on the 10mbps package, 10% would be 1mbps. The cap is spread evenly on a daily basis so if say the monthly cap is 60GB, every day you will have 2GB to download and should your data transfer exceed 2GB, there goes the throttle hammer on you.
All packages are inclusive of a DECT phone, a premise gateway (the modem/router) and a Set-Top-Box (STB). On top of that, there will also be free calls to all TM fixed lines nationwide and a very low flat rate of RM0.10 per minute calls to mobile phones and other operators nationwide.
With the packages announced, what do you think of it? Do share with me your opinion on this UniFi service!

kinda expensive =/
March 25, 2010 - 12:10 pm
it’s still very expensive..even for 1mbps for RM88, it’s considered very expensive..and with regards with our monthly salary, who would want to pay for such an expensive HSBB as most of us are out working everyday..let’s see then
March 25, 2010 - 12:12 pm
Well, it comes with IPTV as well as phone line so I think its still not too bad.
March 25, 2010 - 12:32 pm
I dun think we need the IPTV etc..that’s not necessary..
March 25, 2010 - 12:41 pm
Well, when they have more and comparable channels to Astro, the IPTV is useful especially when the signal won’t be affected by heavy rain unlike Astro.
March 25, 2010 - 12:53 pm
the price quite ok compare to 1mb = rm88..but bandwidth cap thing not so nice..normal streamyx package didnt come with bandwidth cap..but hope price will go down once it is widely available..
March 25, 2010 - 12:57 pm
quite expensive also…but fast la of coursae

March 25, 2010 - 2:14 pm
Well, since now there’s a bandwidth cap, I think there won’t be any throttling on P2P traffic like how it is with Streamyx. Both pros and cons in my opinion so it all depends on the users’ preference at the end of the day.

here is another website. compare the broadband in USA.
http://www.broadbandexpert.com/high-speed-internet/
and for those who is not so smart, dont convert the currency. compare apple to apple. additional info : minimum wages in UK is 5pound per hour while in USA is 7dollar per hour. what abt malaysia minimum wages? NONE. if u work in McD u will get RM3 per hour. so do your maths.
March 25, 2010 - 4:27 pm
i posted a few messages, but it didnt appear. anyway… google for “broadband comparison” and read yourself and do the maths. TM is bloodsuckers. BOYCOTT.
March 25, 2010 - 5:09 pm
It is still expensive, but cheaper compared to 4Mbps Screamyx, Have to wait, to read reviews from the users…
Oh, BTW, I have not seen any contractual terms. Kena ikat kontrak ke?
Who plan to subscribe?
March 25, 2010 - 6:39 pm
Yes, there will be a 24 months minimum subscription period for UniFi.
March 26, 2010 - 9:10 am
Since there is a cap on a daily basis, will it slow down the tv and movies streaming rate?
March 26, 2010 - 9:39 am
No, for IPTV, there will be another dedicated line for that purpose (rumored to be at 8mbps) but whether it will be combined with the Internet usage or not I’m not too sure, however I think most likely it won’t.
March 26, 2010 - 11:20 am
kah2.. bila dah ade iptv, terpakse la Ananda Krishnan gulung tikar.
March 26, 2010 - 12:53 pm
Well, Astro still have one standing point, the exclusive channels to them such as the sports channel. Hopefully TM will be able to bring in more channels to their IPTV service.
March 26, 2010 - 3:33 pm
So cheap – too bad u all asian was so poor lol
March 26, 2010 - 3:47 pm
It will take some time for people to accept the pricing as the service matures. When people are hungry for more speed, they will consider eating UniFi.
March 28, 2010 - 2:41 pm
can IPTV stregth will defeat bad boy ASTRO? how the application work ?
March 31, 2010 - 2:23 pm
Not until TM managed to obtain popular channels, example the sports channels.
April 5, 2010 - 10:20 am
With the IPTV bundled in the package, is that means we can view TV programmes in our TV? or only viewable in PC? what is the requirement and application require to view the TV program in TV and how to configure it? can the STB connect direct to TV?
April 7, 2010 - 7:35 am
I think the price is ok.. only that our salary level, our hectic life, just did not match the price.. We should have proper/considerable minimum wager for income.. then only the people’s purchasing power will improve.. then only people can purchase these kind of prices..
April 7, 2010 - 6:45 pm
I have subscribe to the unifi. The only think I am worried about is the cap. Will see if I can hit the daily cap with torrenting mkv files. As for the IPTV, I don’t really worried abt that. Once you have broadband, you can browse hundreds of streaming sites. Internet Radio, Podcast channel will be a breeze. But, I am still concern with the cap as I am opting for 5Mbps package. Of coz, since this is fiber, and as more customer subscribe to it, I expect the price will be leverage. just like 3G which started with rm200 for the unlimited plan, but now only rm65.
April 8, 2010 - 1:01 am
Yes the STB connects to the TV directly. No application required, it works something like Astro, just that it ain’t a satellite TV service.

July 5, 2010 - 7:04 pm
with the cap, it is a no no deal for me. the price is expensive as compared to singapore or south korea.
If they take out the cap, maybe can consider. Currently i am using the 4MB streamyx combo and paying RM160 also expensive but better because no cap on the download.
July 5, 2010 - 8:21 pm
Isn’t the 4mbps at RM140 already? Anyway, actually it isn’t really that expensive considering that both download and upload is at the same speed. Also, the IPTV and phone is bundled together in the monthly fee.
The catch though is the bandwidth quota cap in which although they mentioned say 60GB per month, the cap will be done on a daily basis so for the VIP5 package which has 60GB monthly, if you exceed 2GB of usage, your speed will throttled/capped for that day and back to normal the next day. It is also rumored that the speed will be capped at 5% of the advertised speed which is about 256kbps for the VIP5 package.
July 23, 2010 - 10:52 am
it’s expensive. if you youtube or iptv a lot your quota will max out pretty fast. TM is sucking mor money for ppl. the free call to fixed lines they are already offering at rm 10 per month.
August 6, 2010 - 8:24 am
This is RIDICULOUS, ABSURD. What???, by capping the speed whenever the usage exceed 2gb on any given day?? THIS IS A STRATEGY, to force subscriber to subscribe to a more expensive package, so that they can have a bigger capacity downloading in a day. Telekom is somehow making FOOL of everyone.
August 6, 2010 - 8:31 am
It is not the end of the world if I don’t subscribe to this kind of RIDICULUOUS deal…
August 6, 2010 - 8:45 am
WHAT IS THE POINT, of having a high speed connection? paying as expensive as rm150, if you download a big file movie, the size of a DVD, when download exceeds 2gb we end up waiting for the downloading to finish in maybe 4 – 5 hours.
August 13, 2010 - 5:13 pm
I had used this so call UniFi for 3 weeks, VIP10. First week, yes its smooth, but sometimes disconnected and you have to call over to them to fix that, and it happen 3 times in the FIRST week. Second week its still the same thing, 3 times at a week. When it came to thrid week, disconnected N times in a DAY, the connection is awfully bad too.
