The Most Expensive Laptop
Would you pay RM42,320 for a laptop? I’m sure you must be wondering if this is a joke as who would pay that amount of money to purchase a laptop? You can even buy a car with that money! However, this is a true story that happened at Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi Mara Balik Pulau in Penang. They purchased two units of Acer Aspire-5052ANWXMI making it a grand total of RM84,640. Isn’t this insane not unless it is made of gold or diamond?
How could someone ever agree to pay so much money for a laptop? There should be someone who approved the expenses, maybe the finance department or something like that and this is perhaps one of the stupid act I’ve ever seen. In this modern day, I dare say that nobody would even believe that a computer is priced above RM40,000 and this is seriously insane. Mara also told the Finance Ministry that the figure was reasonable. What would you have done instead with RM42,320?

Yeah, when I first saw the headline I thought it’s some new and sophisticated laptop that can be used on the moon. When I read further, I was mad. The people evaluating the tender should have been responsible enough to ask for a price breakdown and not just blindly award the project.

I’m sure the breakdown was done but seriously a poor knowledge in the market price or… well I won’t touch on that issue though, God knows.
The 42k is for one unit though, probably but let’s not touch on that issue. Let’s just stick to how ridiculous anyone would approve that amount of money.
I wonder how they convinced to say that its reasonable.

I think the most a laptop could go with high end specs would probably be around RM15k-RM20k. This is insane!

You can buy Alienware with best configuration at that price. RM40k for an Acer? Cheapest brand in laptop industry for RM40k? Malaysia is such a rich country :p

Even so, is RM40k justifiable for a computer? I think even the wealthy ones won’t pay that amount of money for a computer.

Looking at direct price comparison then yes that one is more expensive. However, you should take note that it is made of diamond so there’s no surprise that the price is that high especially having 80 carats.
This Acer on the other hand is nothing but an ordinary laptop with a basic specs and still it costs RM42,320 for a unit.
I think what we’re trying to imply here is the value of it and not the price. The laptop made of diamond kind of justifies the price but a basic laptop at RM42,320, is this justifiable? You be the judge.
