SS20 Fish Head Noodle Stall

Not long back, I went to try out a fish head noodle stall at SS20 near Damansara Kim to be more precise. This particular stall was featured in a food guide hotspot book in which you can find in major book stores. Does this stall live up to standards or simple just overrated?

A bowl of Haruan fish head noodle here can easily cost you about RM9.50 and yes to me it ain’t cheap but I must not forget that prices of fish can fluctuate anytime. Putting the price tag aside, the taste of it isn’t anything much to brag about and I consider it as really normal. The food hotspot guide book along with some famous food bloggers mentioned about this place and how good it tasted but seriously I beg to differ here. For the price and the taste, I’d say the fish head noodle in SS2 is so much better and it will only cost you about RM5 for a bowl.

I’m not too sure if the guy who is collecting the money is the owner of this stall but he seriously needs to buck up his knowledge and skills in doing business. When I gave him RM50.10, he thought I only gave him RM50.00 so okay, humans do make mistakes at times. However, when I told him that I actually gave him RM50.10, he said that he didn’t have enough change and he gave me another 50 cents as well as asking me not to give him more money as though like I would cause him to be in an utter confusion. With such attitude, I felt disgusted and I don’t think I’ll ever come back to this stall nor recommend this place to someone else. I rarely give bad comments on a food place but considering the food here isn’t that good and the attitude of that man, this stall isn’t like how the book stated or how others commented on this particular stall.

Murderer Movie Review

Last night, I together with my dearest attended the premiere screening of the latest Hong Kong movie, Murderer. It was held at e@Curve in Cathay Cineplex courtesy of Nuffnang. I won a pair of the premiere pass from a slogan competition held by them about a month ago.

Do excuse the torn pass as I had to retake a photo of this with another camera as I couldn’t transfer the picture of the passes in good condition due to my handphone’s bluetooth problem. Collected the pass at about 8.30pm from the collection counter and went in to hall 9 at 9.30pm.

Murderer, as the title already mentioned it, you’ll have a rough idea of what the movie is all about, murder! Asian top singer-actor Aaron Kwok plays an upright policeman who suddenly becomes a murder suspect; with emerging Taiwan actress Ning Chang as his loving, anguished but helpless wife.

Aaron Kwok plays the role of Ling Kwong, a 40 year old, self-assured Chief Inspector of Police. He solved numerous difficult cases on his own, has a flawless track record, and is soon to be promoted to Superintendent of Police. Everyone sees him as the future head of the Hong Kong Police Force. Ling has a perfect family having a beautiful, gentle wife, a charming son and a posh lifestyle. In every sense, he is as enviable as he is successful.

His perfect life takes an abrupt turn when he wakes up after fainting in a building, on one of his operations. He wakes to discover his short term memory damaged, and is more shocked to find his best colleague killed in the same building with a lot of holes all over his body, mercilessly blood-let by an electric hand drill! Yes this can be disturbing to watch as it is horrifying especially with his bones all breaking and the amount of blood you’ll see.

Ling’s colleague is the third victim of this series of “bloodletting murders”. Using the most inhuman means, this serial killer makes each victim witness his own slow death, in supreme terror and unimaginable pain! The extreme cruelty of the murders appalls even the most experienced policemen, and after each killing, the murderer simply disappears and leaves no trace at all to the clueless police.

At the height of his life, Ling encounters this most vicious murder throughout Hong Kong’s crime history. He must catch the killer at all costs and to avenge his friend’s death. However, as Ling go through the clues of the murders, he finds that all the evidences are pointing to himself as the murderer! The more he unveils the truth, the more suspicious he becomes.

All this time, Ling’s short term memory continues to desert him. He is losing the last trustworthy evidence which is himself. Ling is being pushed to the edge of madness! Is he really the murderer after all?

If I were to give ratings to this movie, I’d give a an 8/10 as an overall. This movie really had me guessing all the way on what’s next as there could be a lot of possibilities leading to the next scene. Isn’t it great if there’s a movie that isn’t 100% predictable and you’ll have your typical storyline? However, towards the ending, I have to say that I really did not expect it to be that way at all and I would rather see another character used for the murderer. The reason for it, well.. I can’t be saying it as it will reveal the murderer’s identity so I would leave it to you to catch this movie and find out who the real murderer is! Murderer opens on 27th of August 2009 which is tomorrow so don’t miss it! :)

Spend Wisely, Else You'll Be in Trouble

You will definitely be in more trouble ahead if you do not start spending and saving wisely. People these days especially the younger generation do not know the means of saving and all they do is just throw money down the drain. There are times when a lot of teenagers would ask on ways they would be able to spend wisely and not wasting their money all the time, this is becoming a common issue with teenagers these days.

There are a lot of ways to achieve it. Most people would probably go through the process of having their hand “itchy”. This means that they would spend a lot whenever they have money around them. What you can do to avoid this is to only have a certain amount of cash with you. A good start to this is to monitor your average spending per day. Let’s say if you were to spend an average of RM50 per day on your food and petrol expenses, you can then estimate to bring about RM70 with you as the little extra money could be handy in times of an emergency.

A very common yet difficult skill is for people to only spend on items that are necessary. You can create either a weekly or monthly list of items that are needed and spend on that. If you were to buy something else which is really costly, do your calculations first before even making the move to purchase it. Besides, you should only buy things you really like. A common mistake that most people make is that they buy things at the point they see it and when they bring it back home, they think it isn’t suitable or dislike it and thus the money is wasted there. The moment you purchase it, there is no turning back as there is no way you are able to return it if you regret it later.

Based on my observation, a majority of us Malaysians really love to eat. We can’t be blamed for this as we are living in a country rich will different cultures and a variety of food. Well, eating isn’t a sin but it does make you spend even more. With so many choices of food, who could resist all the temptations? Even when you’re feeling hungry in the middle of the night, there’s always 24 hours fast food or ‘mamaks’ to serve food to you. An average eater would usually have 3 meals a day but with the change in culture especially when the ‘mamak’ culture is coming about, people have about 4 to 5 meals a day now. People usually give the reason that they are hungry, that’s why they eat a lot. A good tip to prevent this is to eat something more solid as well as affordable. Don’t go and eat food like cupcakes which cost about RM5 each or buying chocolates and desserts that would probably cost you about RM3 to RM5 in which you are already able to have a decent and fulfilling meal like economy mixed rice. Another method that you can prevent yourself from getting hungry really fast is to avoid drinking cold drinks after your meal. Consuming cold drinks will only make your body burn more calories because the body needs to keep warm whenever the temperature drops.

With entertainment in the city, it is also one of the causes of money wasting especially with the teenagers. Entertainments outlets like arcade centers, cyber cafés and clubbing are all considered a waste of money, at least to me. Why visit arcade centers and cyber cafés when you can already entertain yourself with games at home? People who are so addicted to the games usually visit places like this and will end up spending about RM30 a day. Imagine how much you would be able to save if you were to cut down on this kind of activity a month? That’s like RM900 already! Clubbing is also another form of entertainment and the money wasted on alcohol are ridiculously too much to an extent that you would probably end up using a week’s salary. This kind of spending habit can be thrown away with proper discipline and a rational thinking.

Besides, when you are spending wisely it also means that you’ll have extra cash at the end of the day. Saving RM10 a day doesn’t seem much to most people but think further, if you were to save this way for 365 days, you already saved RM3650 a year and within the next ten years, you’ll have RM36500 which would probably be able to fund your child’s education or any other needs as well. Most people do not see or realize the importance of saving even a little. If you aren’t saving any money every single day, I suggest you should start saving today.

In a nutshell, spending habits is something really important in life. Spending wisely should be taught at home from young so that when they grow up, they would know what is meant by spending wisely. A lot of them who just spends their money like nobody’s business are usually those who were pampered when they were young and they would get things they want no matter what and this actually creates a bad habit when they grow up because they would assume that they would want that something and they will get it no matter what. An advice, manage your financial status properly and you will live much more comfortable than most people out there.

Anti-ISA Rally in Kuala Lumpur

A rally for Anti-ISA was held 2 days ago (1st of August 2009) in Kuala Lumpur. The government took some early precautions such as having roadblocks at main city entrance and trying to catch as many participants of this Anti-ISA rally as possible. However, it really is a sad thing to see as tear gas and water cannon had to be used to control the citizens. With the recently launched 1 Malaysia campaign, I don’t see how that is going to be effective especially when a rally like this is done which will only disrupt our productivity and it might even harm other citizens. Of course, there are also stories behind this rally being sparked and I will not comment more on this. The video above briefly shows what happened during the rally which had almost 20,000 people participated. As Malaysians, I’m sure many of us would not want similar event to occur again or else we might just end up like other countries having protests and rallies every now and then. Prevention is better than cure, not needing any prevention is much better than anything else.

Penang Cuisine at Penang Village

Have you been to Tropicana City Mall? If you are a  big time fan of a Penang cuisine, Penang Village in Tropicana City Mall is where one could get a decent Penang cuisine, well at least that’s my opinion. Are you up for a try?

Penang Village, situated in a secluded corner on the first floor just opposite a noodle restaurant Pho Hoa. If you know where the cinema is, Penang Village is just at the other side of the mall. I’m not quite a fan of Penang Village actually as I’ve tried their branch in Taman Tun Dr Ismail and I find the food there to be on an average standard only. Since then, Penang Village was out of my list until I’ve decided to try again at their latest branch in Tropicana City Mall.

To start things off, their Nyonya Pandan Chicken was the appetizer on my table for the day. Their Nyonya Pandan Chicken is indeed tender and there’s enough moist as I’ve tasted quite a few in various restaurants and most of it turned out to be pretty dry. Moreover, the pandan is really fragrant and it does add a really good taste to the chicken. This one will be highly recommended by me at a price of RM7.90.

Next up we have their Village Special Fried Rice. With a price tag of RM13.90, it is served with fried rice on a banana leaf, prawns made in tempura style, fried chicken and a fried egg. Honestly speaking, their fried rice isn’t anything special, it still is good but I don’t know why they would call this special, perhaps it is the servings that comes with the fried rice so it is labeled as special. Nonetheless, this is still worth a try to me.

Last but not least, their Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang was in my order. First of all, I would give credits to their effort in putting up a good presentation in this but I really don’t think such a long plate is needed for this. Food wise, it was tasty but I expected this to be better since it was a recommendation in their menu. Price? RM13.90 for this.

Penang Village certainly has a lot more room for improvements but it is still worth trying. I would say that this branch in Tropicana City Mall is better than the one in Taman Tun Dr Ismail for some reasons. Price isn’t too expensive and it is considered among the cheaper ones if you were to compare with other restaurants in a shopping mall. If you ask me whether to try this restaurant or not, I’d say yes. :)
