I was searching through my folder of photos and found some photos taken with my trusty SonyEricsson w810i. Although the photo quality of a camera phone can never match a digital camera, I feel that it is still good enough to take some candid shots and also snapping some moments if you do not have a digital camera with you. Below are two photos which was taken with my camera phone and I did submitted it to an Exabytes photo contest in conjunction with the Merdeka celebration last year.

The above photo was taken in Melaka on a beautiful morning. I was amazed by the quality of it when I got home and transferred it to my computer. Well, to a photographer this photo might not seem very attractive but to me and I believe some others will think that it is amazing for a camera phone to take such photo. There are even better camera phones in the market now, I am only using an old SonyEricsson w810i so I assume the newer models could even take much better photos in terms of the photo quality.

I believe many do know the famous Petronas Twin Tower or rather known as KLCC. Again the above photo was taken with my camera phone and I submitted it to the Exabytes photo contest as mentioned earlier on. I was shocked that this photo made it through to the last round but eventually lost badly in the last round as this photo only received two votes. For a photo taken with a camera phone being able to make it through to the final round is really amazing because it won’t be surprising if it lost considering the other photos were taken with digital camera and some even with prosumer and dSLR cameras.
I am actually trying to say that camera phones are still good if you aren’t taking photos seriously as a profession, minus the focusing ability, zooming ability and the photo quality would make camera phones a close competitor to digital cameras. For those who thinks that camera phones can’t take good photos, never underestimate camera phones again alright ? ![]()

Well yea of course. It is similar to comparing a desktop and a laptop computer, both are computers but the performance of a laptop can never be compared to a desktop since both are in a different category.

yeah, I’m using w810i for almost 2 years. Great camera phone I must say. Do you notice that most of the people who said cameraphone is a junk, doesn’t have cameraphone or they only have some very basic function cameraphone like VGA resolution. Coz of those basic phone can never compare to those high end phone with better camera len, auto focus feature and a way better LCD. My opinion, cameraphone rocks. But I won’t ignore the power of digital camera as mine has 12x optical zoom and 0 cm super macro mode lol.

Well this year will be my second year of using the w810i too, so far so good. True that, I just hope people won’t underestimate camera phones.
That’s cool, I’ve checked it out and a good source of information too.

the twin tower photo looks nice to me. I always try to take a night scene photo of it using my fren’s cellphone but still the images turned out to be blurry.
i dont have a cellphone with camera, mind u

Night scenes or anything that doesn’t have enough lighting will turn out to be a terrible photo which is why somehow I was quite amazed by the KLCC photo, sometimes my phone does serve me well enough.
Well a phone with a built in camera won’t help much, just for the fun of it with some candid shots.

ya i agree with you. but still it’s the cheapest and most affordable one for play-play-blogger like me.. hahaha.. too bad i dont have one yet. i usually use my fren’s phone to snap photos.. then only ask them to send the images to me. lol

True because you’ll be able to have a phone and a camera together, saves pocket space too since you won’t have two devices.
Pros and cons once again..

My hp is SE K800i. I like the camera 3.2 megapixel. BUt I found that at night I cannot take nice photos.. why ar??
May 16th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
Well is there enough lighting or at least similar to the one in my KLCC photo ? Well I had struggled to take a good night time photo, most of it turned out to be pretty bad but then the KLCC photo that I posted was one of the best.
